Front Line Workers
If you have been working through the Pandemic, you may feel overwhelmed at the moment, I would like to offer you a free session to help you deal with this difficult time. Please email me for more details.
Originally from England I have been a resident of Cape Town for over a decade now. I obtained my MA in Counselling Psychology from Rhodes University with an internship at Rhodes Clinic and the Student Counselling Centre. Through my training, volunteer work, teaching and practice I have had the opportunity to work with clients from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. I have found that the narrative we build that describes ourselves shapes who we think we are, and how we make decisions, both good and bad. Most of the time, if we are lucky, this works for us, as we transition from one life stage to the next. Sometimes, though, it fails, and we begin to struggle, without understanding why. The reasons for this can be both simple and yet complex. My focus is to help individuals and couples develop insight into why they do what they do, and from there to begin to heal, and re-discover their purpose and passion for their lives. I achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan in collaboration with you.
I work as an intergrative psychotherapist in that where necessary I draw from more than one approach depending on the needs of the client. The theoretical approaches that I draw from include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy, as well as the Humanistic and Existential Schools of Therapy.
Regardless of the many, many schools of psychotherapy that exist, extensive research has shown that the most important indicator of a successful therapeutic outcome is a good relationship between a therapist and their client. It might take more than one attempt to find a therapist that suits you, but try you must. In the long term you will not regret it.
